Firerock is a catalytic DIY family-friendly musical & community activation project designed to bring people together to address climate justice with heart and imagination. Firerock’s director team includes core members Acushla Bastible, Kristin Rothballer, Enrico De Trizio and myself. It was created by a collaborative team and process which includes national artists and community members from all over the country.
I had no idea when I started Firerock that it would take so long to find the right story to help us navigate the immensity of climate disruption and climate justice. We got the song fundamentals early on but the overall story itself had to turn inside out many times. Making the project with many community participants is the project as it is ever evolving and needs to be to be a vital living story. Hundreds of people and workshops later, in church basements, with coal miners, indigenous communities, scientists, organizations, universities, schools and more we finally got the right balance and launched Firerock with a concert performance.

Firerock is now available for faith communities, schools and more to take it and make it their own. I love Firerock and it took a lot out of me. In the end, for me, it led to the birth of Waking The Oracle. Firerock was and is a learning journey. In the process I had to heal my transactional ways towards myself and the world in the same way the Firerock story asks the people in it to rise in new ways and align to their deep values. I had to reconnect to myself to in new ways. This project required my own fall and rebirth. It enabled me to be a much better agent for the healing of the planet. I have found I can only facilitate the cultivation of balance and harmony in the world if I know it in within myself.
